Detail
DC01 is well suited for welding. The steel can be welded without issues using common methods, including manual arc welding, metal inert gas welding (MIG) and tungsten inert gas welding (TIG). Post-weld heat treatment is generally not required; if needed, a stress-relief anneal is recommended.
Detail
DC01 does not machine as readily as steels specifically optimized for machining, but it still offers reasonable machinability. It can be machined with carbide and high-speed tools; carbide tooling is recommended where longer tool life and higher cutting speeds are required. Tool wear can be well controlled, particularly with carbide tools.
Detail
The DC01 steel exhibits strongly magnetic properties.
Detail
The material is used more frequently for cold forming than for forging applications. For forging, a recommended temperature range is 850°C to 1100°C. After forging, slow cooling is advised to avoid residual stresses. Normalizing can be applied to refine microstructure and mechanical properties.
Detail
DC01 has low inherent corrosion resistance. To improve durability, the material is often galvanized (coated with zinc). For environments with seawater or aggressive chemicals, higher-alloy steels or stainless steels are preferable without additional surface treatment.
